My teeth are pretty much perfect and so are most peoples i know...

who is WE as you don't say where you are your question sounds pretty stupid to me. If some yank said i had rotting teeth that yank would find a few of Thar's missing pretty fast

Reply:I don't know why Americans think that. I've encountered enough people from the UK to understand it isn't true. I think it's the way people taint their perceptions of others in the world. I'm certain that the people in the UK have quite a few stereotypes about us that they can't explain.

Reply:well its because they have bigger egos than us, and they put perfection high on their list of their expectations on people, so for them having their teeth capped or redone, rather than us brits taking care of what we were born with and following health promotion, makes them live in a world that is completely cosmetic.........well i like my real boobs and my real teeth.....and its enriching seeing people who except who they are and feel complete about their bodies whether that be in the uk or america........society has a large part to play in which ever nation u live in.
Reply:For the same reason Brits think ALL Americans are fat, lazy and arrogant! Or all Muslims are terrorists! Its a generalisation! Some are, some ain't!
Reply:because its a stereotype. like them all being fat or perfect from cosmetic surgery but i dont think thats a sterotype i think thats pretty much true.

Reply:Because they can't tell the difference between "not perfectly straight" and "rotten". Americans go to a lot of trouble to get their teeth perfectly straight and gleaming white because they are vain and because it is what their society expects. English people are much more chilled out about that sort of thing and more willing to accept people as they are.

There is a shortage of Dentists in the UK, particularly in the south east. Many Dentists' books are full and therfore are not accepting NHS patients. So most people go private nowadays.





Some people now go on medical holidays to eastern Europe to get high quality dental treatment at a fraction of the UK price.





Plus, the standard of Orthodontistry is much higher in the US.
Reply:Before the British adopted universal health care, dentistry was not always considered a necessity, particularly during WWII, when the rank and file of the UK had a lot more to worry about than dental hygiene. The British diet of that period was not particularly conducive to good oral health, and like China, and many other cultures, the toothbrush was not a universal grooming instrument. These factors led to a perception, and a not altogether incorrect one, that many Brits had bad teeth.





Please recall that the Austin Powers movies have brought this stereotype to the fore, and that Austin Powers is a character from the sixties, born during the bad old days of English oral hygiene. This stereotype was presented as visual humor, and to anyone with the ability to critically analyze the subtleties of this humor would understand that this was a comment on the generation now in their seventies, and not the current crop of adults.

Reply:Well we don't think you do now, but on the news one time there was a English reporter with bad teeth, but I have been to England five times so I know you dont have bad teeth, the bad teeth thing, I think comes from like the 1700's, I guess British people might have had bad teeth then but I would think other countires would too, so I dont know.
Reply:It's just an outdated stereotype. Supposedly the dentists there didn't used to be any good. But most people here don't think that anymore, don't worry! But we are all FAT, right? lol
