Does giving a child a pacifier mess up their teeth even if its an one of those orthodontic ones?

Does giving a child a pacifier mess up their teeth even if its an one of those orthodontic ones? My sons teeth are coming in weird some are spaced a little ways apart and I%26#039;m worried he will need braces or have bad teeth. My husband has perfect teeth and mine aren%26#039;t too bad. He%26#039;s a little over a year old. Since he is teething he has been wanting his pacifier more and more so I hope that its not affecting them. Please help!

No, not at all. Their teeth are supposed to be wide apart so more teeth come in. They need their nukkie. If you think he is getting too old for it, tell him it has to stay in his bed. He will get tired of being in bed all the time. The next step-lose it one day or tell him another baby needs it at the hospital. Sounds like you%26#039;re a great parent.
Reply:its ok while hes still an infant...but letting him walk around with a nuk as a toddler is not helping his development nor does it look %26quot;cute%26quot;...

why dont you try a chilled teething ring or chew toy?
Reply:HE PROBABLY LIKES HIS PACIFIER BECAUSE IT RUBES ON HIS GUMS. A TEETHING RING MIGHT HELP. I WOULDN%26#039;T THINK THAT THE PACIFIER WOULD,USED IN MODERATION BE BAD. ASK HIS PEDIATRICIAN THE NEXT TIME YOUR THERE.
Reply:from experience with my first son, I learned they aren%26#039;t as bad as people make them out to be. I was one of those people who used to say my kid will never use a fooler, but sure enough, it was my lifesaver!! His teeth came in with gaps and all weird, and I asked his dr if it was from the fooler. Not necessarily, but there%26#039;s no worries. When he gets his molars his teeth will even out and the gaps will go away. Some babies teeth will come in perfectly, others won%26#039;t. You can blame that on a bottle, fooler, or thumb, it%26#039;s just they way they grow in. Besides, they%26#039;re just baby teeth, it doesn%26#039;t mean his permanents will grow in like that! lol
Reply:This are his first set of teeth--and its ok for them to come in crooked and I think that he is too old for a pacifier--try to cut off the tip of the pacifier a little at a time so that eventually he will get tired of having to hold it with his teeth or with it falling out***Don%26#039;t worry about his teeth being crooked his secondary teeth are the ones to notice if he will need braces or not--but do still take care of them(brushing)
Reply:It%26#039;s ok, until 1 year to 18 months, then it starts to affect the teeth. I was a nursery teacher for a little while, and there was a little 2 year old who%26#039;d had his binkie since he was born. That little boy was adorable, but then he%26#039;d open his mouth. I called them his little %26quot;Monster Teeth%26quot; because they were all pointy and weird.

Anyway, the answer to your problem (if your kid is a toddler) is Mampi the Pacifier and the Pacifier Fairy! (URL below)
Reply:Great question! Both of my kids were pacifier addicts! LOL

My dentist was really cool about it. she said it is better to let them have the pacifier than to take it away while they still need it. In that case they might resort to thumb sucking which is damaging to the teeth. Pacifiers will not damage baby teeth. AND kids will give it up before the adult teeth come in! So, go ahead and let them have it!!!
Reply:well, when they are born they have a sucking instict, so offer a pacifier. dont make the baby take it if it doesnt want it. they dont have to have it. my kids only took one for a couple weeks and didnt want it anymore. i do think that over time like too much time it can mess up ur teeth. i would say after about 2-3 months i would gradually start taking them away from it, just so they dont get so attached to it. and also, what is the baby doing before u give it to them, dont make it a habitual thing to offer it to them.
Reply:all teething tots look like austin powers till all the teeth squish in and straighten out
Reply:It is not what it will or wont do to his teeth so much as the fact that it can and will cause his palate to be shaped funny and this is bad. The pacifier should be gone at age two so...he is still fine.
