Brushing teeth to long bad?

I brush my teeth approx 5minutes every session, which is twice a day. Is that to long? I don%26#039;t brush hard, I%26#039;m just not getting the results, it seems the longer i brush, the yellower my teeth seem to be, they just don%26#039;t seem to whiten, i used to have those perfect white teeth (no pun intended) but not, over time they seem to yellowin, not decay, but not the best smile.

Thank you in advance.

I am using an electric toothbrush, the Oral B Vitality for about 6 weeks.

Brushing teeth to long bad?
You are brushing your teeth to long which can make the enamel on your teeth wear out quicker. The rule of thumb for the length of time to brush teeth: say the %26quot;Happy Birthday%26quot; song twice in your head and then stop brushing!
Reply:if you brush for too long you can brush away your enamal and if you brush too hard your gums can bleed. You should brush 2 a day for about 3 mins and floss once.
Reply:Maybe your real problem is obsessive compulsive
Reply:No, over brushing shouldn%26#039;t be a problem. If you feel any more uncertainty about it, then you should just lessen your time.
Reply:your not supposed to brush very long or hard, you damage your enamel over the long term with ferrocious cleaning.

you should be able to sing %26#039;happy birthday%26#039; in your head twice, also just put enough pressure on your teeth to clean the surface. floss to get those close spots.

your teeth can get yellow if you wear out the enamel.
Reply:cuz when u brush to long u kill th coroma or something like that which is on your teeth and ur teeth are unprotected and its easir for them to get dirty/yellowish Dont brush for to long i know what u mean
Reply:The brushing guidelines say to brush for two minutes. Personally, I don%26#039;t think that%26#039;s long enough. I usually brush for five minutes too. The key is not too brush too hard, which you seem to have under control.

As for the yellowing...do you drink colas, coffee, or even things like grape juice? Those can all yellow the teeth over time. So does smoking. Have you had to take antibiotics? They yellow the teeth as well. My daughter used the Crest whitestrips and they REALLY work well! Give them a try.

The Oral B is a good brush. I could never go back to manual again! lol
Reply:I always brush that long!! Enamel is the hardest substance in the body, a soft nylon bristle can wear it out. If your gums bleed, it%26#039;s because you haven%26#039;t been brushing well. Brush long, but don%26#039;t use abrasive toothpaste. (I usually do my long brush without toothpaste...shorter brushings with toothpaste for fluoride treatments... also I never get my teeth %26quot;professionally polished.%26quot; That really wears the enamel. My teeth are shade B1, the lightest natural shade; you can go a tad lighter with bleaching)
